Ms Jess

Clarinet | Flute | Saxophone
Ms Jess is an energetic, passionate performer and educator based in Brisbane. Recently completing a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, Jess is now a candidate of the Graduate Certificate program at the same institution. In this program she will work towards enhancing her skills as a saxophonist and clarinettist. Currently, she teaches the woodwind program at Harmonie Music Centre.

After achieving an Associate of Music diploma for flute in year 12, Jess went on to prove her commitment and determination at university, receiving the Victoria Chalmers Education Award in her first year. During her degree, her work with Virginia Taylor, renowned Australian flautist, was incredibly valuable for her development as a musician. Performing with the university ensembles Jess has had experience playing chamber music, classical orchestral music, and premiering new compositions with the wind orchestra. As well as this, she performed with the musical theatre students to present West Side Story in 2017 and Company in 2018. These shows were particularly exciting as musical theatre is a favourite for Jess, and is what sparked her interest in playing saxophone and clarinet.

Further afield, Jess enjoys performing both with professional ensembles and within the community. Cadenza Chamber Players is an emerging professional chamber orchestra, with whom Jess performs a wide range of music, and featured as a soloist in May of this year. Alongside colleagues from university, Bianca Murphy and Jean Paul Cerdan, Jess is a part of a woodwind ensemble named Trio Vienti. She performs with this group at functions and provides performance workshops for high school students. Within the community, Jess engages with local schools through activities as a performer and educator, and is a member of Brisbane Symphonic Band as a clarinettist.

Jess loves to pass her skills on to the next generation of music makers through private teaching. With experience teaching flute, clarinet and saxophone, she creates a fun and encouraging environment to help students achieve their goals. In her spare time, Jess loves to get lost in a good book and play some of her favourite pop or Disney songs on the piano.

My son has been taking piano and guitar lessons for more than a year. He loves his teachers and I can tell that they really care about my kid too. Harmonie music centre is wonderful and I highly recommend.

I am most grateful that my son's guitar teacher not only makes learning fun and shares his knowledge, but his passion for music as well. I could not have found a better place for him to learn guitar.
